China’s Zhao Xintong delivered a commanding performance on Tuesday, whitewashing Ishpreet Singh Chadha 4-0 to advance to the last 32 of the English Open in Brentwood.
The reigning world champion, who has struggled for consistency this season, showed glimpses of his best form with breaks of 134, 110, and 105 against his Indian opponent.
Zhao will next face Jack Lisowski, who came through a tough match against Thepchaiya Un-Nooh with a 4-2 victory.
The last 32 lineup also features strong performances from several lower-ranked players, including Aaron Hill, who ousted Stephen Maguire 4-2, as well as former ranking event winners Luca Brecel, Ricky Walden, and Fan Zhengyi.
Defending champion Neil Robertson made a strong start to his title defence with a 4-1 win over Sunny Akani. He will take on Jackson Page in the next round.
Other notable winners included Judd Trump, Mark Allen, Ding Junhui, and Xiao Guodong, who continued his fine form with a 4-0 win over Gong Chenzhi.
The tournament continues on Wednesday with the round of 32 matches as the field narrows down to the last 16.
