The 2023 World Champion, who skipped the first three ranking events this season, registered his first win of the campaign with a 4-0 result against Liam Davies in the Northern Ireland Open qualifiers. He carried that form into today’s match, compiling breaks of 95, 51, and 50. Brecel is set to face Hossein Vafaei on Monday evening.
Marco Fu continued his impressive run this season, whitewashing Mark Davis 4-0 with a high break of 110. This marks Fu’s eighth win in his last ten matches.
In other matches, Iran's Amir Sarkhosh defeated Long Zehuang 4-2 with a top run of 76, setting up a meeting with Mark Williams. Jimmy Robertson clinched a tense 4-3 victory over Wang Yuchen on the final black, while Zak Surety also took a decider on the colours to beat Haris Tahir 4-3. Liam Highfield staged a comeback from 3-1 down against Oliver Lines, making breaks of 89 and 79 to force a decider, which he won on the colours. Louis Heathcote fired a 127 in his 4-3 win over Jordan Brown.
